Young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, known as one of the most promising cricketers in the world, talked about playing under India’s new head coach, Gautam Gambhir. He said that Gambhir fully supports his players, which allows them to play with confidence.
Jaiswal, a left-handed batter, has made a huge impact in international cricket. In just 9 Tests (16 innings), he reached 1,000 runs, making him the second-fastest Indian to do so after Vinod Kambli, who took 14 innings.
Making His Mark in International Cricket
Jaiswal made his debut with a century in a Test match against the West Indies, but it was the series against England that really showed his talent. He scored 712 runs in five matches, outperforming well-known players like Rohit Sharma, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes.
In T20 internationals, Jaiswal has also impressed with his aggressive style. He has played 23 T20Is for India and scored 723 runs with a remarkable strike rate of 164.32. While he hasn’t played an ODI yet, he’s still seen as a strong candidate for India’s Champions Trophy squad next year.

Gambhir’s Encouraging Approach
Jaiswal spoke about the positive impact Gambhir’s coaching has had on him. He mentioned that during the Sri Lanka series, Gambhir encouraged the team to play freely without pressure. “It gives us a lot of confidence and helps us play without fear,” Jaiswal said in an interview with PTI.
Preparing for Upcoming Challenges
Looking ahead, Jaiswal is gearing up for the Duleep Trophy and the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh. He sees the Duleep Trophy as a great opportunity to improve his skills before the Bangladesh series.
“I’m working hard in the nets to prepare for both the Duleep Trophy and the Bangladesh series. It’s not about setting personal goals but staying consistent and improving my skills,” Jaiswal shared.
Domestic Tournaments as Key Practice
Jaiswal emphasized the importance of domestic tournaments like the Duleep Trophy and Irani Trophy. “These matches are crucial for building confidence and preparing for international games,” he said. Playing in these intense competitions helps him stay focused and contribute to his team’s success.
He added, “In tournaments like the Duleep Trophy, you learn a lot. It’s great preparation for upcoming Test series.“
