Rahul Dravid to Leave as India’s Head Coach, Jay Shah Reveals New Coaching Strategy

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah recently announced that they’ll soon be looking for a new head coach for the Indian cricket team. Rahul Dravid who’s been the head coach since November 2021, might not get an extension this time. His current contract ends in June, coinciding with the T20 World Cup.

Rahul Dravid got an extension in November 2023, but it only lasted till June 2024. Now, if he wants to continue, he needs to apply like everyone else. The BCCI might also consider hiring a foreign coach this time, keeping the process open and global.

There’s been talk about having different coaches for different formats, but Shah thinks it’s unlikely for India. Players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant play all formats, so it might not be practical.

The “Impact Player” rule has been under scrutiny, especially from players like Rohit Sharma. This rule introduces new players into the IPL, but some feel it limits all-rounder development. Shah said they’ll talk to teams and broadcasters to decide its fate, as they’re open to feedback.

In essence, the BCCI is gearing up for a change in leadership for the Indian cricket team. While Dravid’s future remains uncertain, the board is keeping its options open, even considering a foreign coach. They’re also evaluating the Impact Player rule’s effectiveness, showing a willingness to adapt based on feedbAlso
