South Africa Names Squad for Bangladesh Test Series: Senuran Muthusamy is back in the squad after last playing a Test in 2023. He is joined by Dane Piedt and Keshav Maharaj as South Africa has selected three spinners for their upcoming two-Test series in Bangladesh. Matthew Breetzke is the only player in the squad who has not yet played a Test.

South Africa’s red-ball coach, Shukri Conrad, explained that this squad is chosen based on the conditions they expect to face in Bangladesh. There were concerns about the trip due to recent political unrest, but Cricket South Africa (CSA) approved the tour after a security team inspected Dhaka and Chattogram, where the Tests will take place.
“I want to thank both boards, Cricket South Africa and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, for ensuring the series goes ahead. Touring Bangladesh is always challenging. They have become a strong team at home, and we must be ready for this challenge. We have chosen three frontline spinners who can perform when needed. This is a great opportunity for Senuran to show his skills with both bat and ball.“
The squad also includes fast bowlers Kagiso Rabada, Nandre Burger, Dane Paterson, and allrounder Wiaan Mulder.
Paterson, 35, and Piedt, 34, were part of South Africa’s Test tour to New Zealand earlier this year. Breetzke, a promising 25-year-old batsman, has played only eight T20 Internationals so far. With experienced players like Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, captain Temba Bavuma, David Bedingham, and others, it may be tough for Breetzke to make his Test debut.
Also in the Team: Ashwell Prince, the batting coach, is part of the traveling team. He has previously worked as Bangladesh’s batting coach and could provide valuable insights.
