1. Meg Lanning – 5 ICC Trophies
Meg Lanning quickly showed her talent when she debuted in 2011. At just 18 years old, she scored her first century in only her second match, making her the youngest player to achieve this feat.
In 2012, she followed this up with Australia’s fastest century, scored in just 45 balls. Her performances earned her the captaincy, and her first major challenge came at the 2014 T20 World Cup. Despite being a young and inexperienced leader, Lanning excelled, finishing as the tournament’s highest scorer with 257 runs and guiding her team to victory with a century in the final.
Lanning’s only setback came during the 2017 ODI World Cup when an injury caused Australia to exit in the semifinals. She bounced back, leading her team to win three more T20 World Cups in 2018, 2020, and 2023, and an ODI World Cup in 2022.
2. Ricky Ponting – 4 ICC Trophies
Ricky Ponting’s World Cup journey began in 1999 under Steve Waugh’s captaincy, where he helped Australia win the tournament. He then captained Australia to two more World Cup titles in 2003 and 2007, becoming the only male captain to win back-to-back World Cups.
Ponting was a key player in every World Cup he played, scoring 1743 runs in 43 innings with an average of 45.87. He also played a significant role in Australia’s ICC Champions Trophy victories in 2006 and 2009.
3. MS Dhoni – 3 ICC Trophies
MS Dhoni is widely regarded as India’s most successful captain, leading the team to three ICC titles in seven years. His first major success came in the 2007 T20 World Cup, where he guided a young Indian team to victory. In 2011, he led India to a memorable ODI World Cup win, ending a 28-year drought since their last victory in 1983.
Dhoni completed his ICC trophy collection by winning the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, becoming the second Indian captain to do so.
4. Clive Lloyd – 2 ICC Trophies
Clive Lloyd was the first captain to dominate world cricket, leading the West Indies to World Cup victories in 1975 and 1979. Lloyd’s leadership and aggressive batting style helped his team become a powerhouse in international cricket during the 70s and early 80s.
5. Pat Cummins – 2 ICC Trophies
Pat Cummins led Australia to victory in the 2023 ICC Test Championship, defeating India, and then went on to win the 2023 ODI World Cup. His contributions as a bowler in key matches, including the semifinals and final, played a vital role in Australia’s success.
