Dhoni’s journey to becoming IPL’s top player was solidified in 2023 when he captained the Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title, equaling the league record.

Dhoni is a cricket icon in India and a legend worldwide. He stands as one of the most celebrated international cricketers.

Born in Ranchi, Dhoni led India to victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup, the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy.

Known as the “Captain Cool,” Dhoni is the only captain to have won all three ICC international limited-overs tournaments.

He also led teams that won the Asia Cup in 2010 and 2016 and was part of the squad that won in 2018.

He made history as the first player to play 200 T20 games for the Super Kings and holds the record for the most appearances in the world’s top T20 league, with 252 matches (227 as captain).

Popularly called “Thala,” Dhoni has the seventh-highest runs in IPL, with the fourth-best average (38.79) and fifth-best strike rate (135.92).

As a former Chennai Super Kings captain, he holds records for the most dismissals (180), catches (147), and stumpings (42) by a wicketkeeper in IPL history.

He also became the first player to reach 300 dismissals when he stumped Shubman Gill in the 2023 IPL final.

Gill’s dismissal was Dhoni’s quickest stumping in any limited-overs format.

Master of the Death Overs

Dhoni reigns supreme as the ‘king of the death overs’ with the most runs and sixes during this stage. He has accumulated 2,631 runs in the death overs, including 162 sixes.

With 239 career sixes, Dhoni is fourth on the all-time list for sixes, cementing his status as IPL’s ultimate finisher and greatest player.
