In IPL RCB May Miss Playoffs Even They Beat CSK.

The IPL 2024 is at a thrilling point with only one playoff spot left, and three teams are vying for it. These teams are Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and Lucknow Super Giants. However, Lucknow’s chances are very slim due to their poor Net Run Rate.

The upcoming match between RCB and CSK is crucial. Both teams have a real chance of making it to the playoffs. CSK has 14 points and a better Net Run Rate (+0.528), giving them a slight edge. RCB has 12 points and needs a win in their final league match to stay in the race.

The weather might play a role, too. If the match is canceled due to rain, CSK will go through because of their higher points. Even if RCB wins the match, their playoff spot isn’t assured. This makes the RCB vs CSK match on Saturday like a virtual knockout game, crucial for both teams’ hopes of securing the fourth playoff spot in IPL 2024.

RCB and CSK IPL 2024 Playoffs Scenario

If Faf du Plessis’ team wants to advance, they must beat CSK by at least 18 runs if they bat first and score 200 runs. Winning by 17 runs or less will eliminate them due to a lower Net Run Rate.

If RCB bats second, they must reach the target with 11 balls left if they are chasing 201 runs.

This makes RCB’s path to qualification tricky, giving CSK a better chance. CSK can still qualify even with a close loss.

IPL 2024 Playoffs Scenario Where Neither RCB, Nor CSK Go Through

There’s another unlikely scenario where neither RCB nor CSK make the playoffs. If the Lucknow Super Giants beat the Mumbai Indians by a huge margin in their last match, they could have a better Net Run Rate (NRR) than RCB and advance. For this to happen, Lucknow must win big and have a higher NRR than RCB. Then, they would need RCB to beat CSK in the Bengaluru vs Chennai match, but only by a very small margin.
