Irfan Pathan praised Pat Cummins for helping SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) qualify for the IPL 2024 playoffs. Cummins, along with Daniel Vettori, turned around SRH’s fortunes. Aiden Markram was the captain last season but got dropped mid-season due to poor performance. Vettori’s experience with Cummins from the Australian team helped their partnership excel for SRH.
Pathan compared SRH‘s success to a train staying on track when all its bogies move together. He highlighted Cummins’ solid performance, citing his experience and past victories in the World Cup and World Test Championship.
Although Cummins hasn’t performed exceptionally as a player in the IPL, his role as captain has brought stability to SRH. Pathan acknowledged that while Kane Williamson did well as captain before, his departure led to instability until Cummins took over.

Cummins’ leadership, rather than his individual performance, has been crucial for SRH. Despite not setting the IPL on fire with his playing skills, his stability as captain has been invaluable for the team. Pathan emphasized the importance of stability for a team like SRH and credited Cummins for providing it.
Pat Cummins has been really good at organizing his team. He wasn’t the best player in the IPL, but as a captain, he’s brought stability. That’s really important for a team like this. Before, Kane Williamson was doing a great job leading the team. But when he left and his replacement didn’t do as well, the team struggled. Now, with Cummins as captain, things seem more stable again.
