Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced criticism from experts and fans after their IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday. After RCB won and secured a spot in the playoffs, there were wild celebrations at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. RCB players were criticized for not shaking hands with MS Dhoni, who might have played his last IPL game since CSK didn’t make it to the playoffs.
RCB fans also faced backlash on social media for their behavior towards CSK fans outside the stadium. In a viral video, RCB supporters were seen mocking and manhandling a CSK fan after the match.
RCB’s post-match celebrations might seem over the top, but they earned their place in the playoffs. The team was at the bottom of the table after losing seven of their first eight games. However, they turned things around by winning six matches in a row, securing a spot in the playoffs.
This year’s IPL Qualifier 2 and final will be at Chepauk, CSK’s home ground. Fans hoped to see Dhoni and his team win the trophy there on May 26. Unfortunately, CSK had a rough season and didn’t make it to the playoffs.
Dhoni, now 42, was expected to retire after leading CSK to their fifth title last year. Instead, he promised to return for another season after a knee operation. Dhoni passed the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who chose to field first in the decisive match for the final playoff spot.
In the game, Dhoni scored 61 runs for the seventh wicket with Ravindra Jadeja. However, Yash Dayal dismissed him, helping RCB secure their playoff position.
