IPL fans are all wondering the same thing: Is this the end of MS Dhoni‘s career? The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend saw his team lose a close match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Saturday, which knocked them out of the tournament. Dhoni was understandably very upset.
After CSK won the IPL in 2023, Dhoni had mentioned that retiring then would have been easier for him. However, because of the immense love and support from fans, he decided to play for at least one more season. That season ended on Saturday, but Dhoni has not yet announced his plans for the future.
According to the Times of India, Dhoni hasn’t told anyone in the CSK team that he is quitting. Instead, he has informed the management that he will take a couple of months to make his final decision. After the loss, Dhoni was one of the first to leave for his hometown, Ranchi, and was seen riding his bike there a day later.
In the crucial match between RCB and CSK, led by Faf du Plessis, RCB needed a win to finish in the top 4. They succeeded, winning by 27 runs. However, there was some criticism of RCB players for continuing to celebrate while Dhoni waited to shake hands. Eventually, Dhoni walked off without shaking hands, and Virat Kohli followed him to talk.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan criticized the RCB players on Cricbuzz for not respecting Dhoni. Vaughan acknowledged that RCB has a lot of support and is eager for success but stressed that teams should be mindful of their actions and show sportsmanship, especially towards a respected player like Dhoni.
