The first One-Day International (ODI) cricket match was played on January 5, 1971, between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Over the past 50 years, the format has changed a lot. The number of overs, balls per over, ball color, and clothing colors have all changed.

Bangladesh, often led by Mashrafe Mortaza, Habibul Bashar, and Shakib Al Hasan, have won 133 games and lost 245. Their win-loss ratio of 0.542 is the second-worst among all the teams in this list. However, they are constantly improving.
8. Australia – 333
Australia is the most successful ODI cricket team. They have won 5 World Cups (in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015) and have 579 ODI wins. They have also lost 333 matches, giving them a win/loss ratio of 1.738, which is the second-best among the top 10 teams, after South Africa.
Besides their World Cup-winning captains Allan Border, Steve Waugh, Ricky Ponting, and Michael Clarke, other notable captains like Greg Chappell, Mark Taylor, and Steve Smith have also led Australia well.
7. England – 336
Eoin Morgan is easily England’s best ODI captain ever. He has led them to 74 wins, which is more than twice as many as the next best captain, Alastair Cook. He also helped England win their first 50-over World Cup a few years ago.
England has played a lot of ODI matches, winning 383 and losing 339, giving them a win/loss ratio of 1.129.
With Morgan as captain, England has achieved great things, including the highest innings score in ODI cricket, 481 runs against Australia three years ago. The team is likely to win more trophies in the future.
6. New Zealand – 374
Before winning the WTC final recently, New Zealand had experienced back-to-back disappointments, losing in the finals of the 2015 and 2019 World Cups. The 2019 loss was especially painful as they lost based on the number of boundaries scored.

Since their first One Day International (ODI) match in 1983, they have won 138 games and lost 375. This gives them a win-loss ratio of 0.368, which is the worst among the top 10 ODI teams.

4. West Indies – 384
The West Indies won the first two World Cups in 1975 and 1979, but lost the final in 1983 to India. They were very strong back then. However, since 2000, especially in the last ten years, the team has struggled both on and off the field due to conflicts between players and the board.
Overall, they have won 404 matches and lost 384, with a win/loss ratio of 1.052. Now, with Kieron Pollard as the new captain, the West Indies aim to become dominant in world cricket again. Viv Richards and Brian Lara each captained the team in more than 100 ODIs.
3. Pakistan – 416
Pakistan has won one ODI World Cup in 1992, when Imran Khan, who is now the Prime Minister, was the captain. He led the team in 139 ODIs. Wasim Akram, a famous fast bowler, is the only other player to have captained Pakistan in over 100 ODIs.
Pakistan has won 490 matches and lost 416, giving them a win-loss ratio of 1.177. Other famous players like Inzamam-ul-Haq, Javed Miandad, Shahid Afridi, and Misbah-ul-Haq have also been important leaders of the team.
2. India – 427
India has a win-loss ratio of 1.208 in cricket, with 516 wins and 427 losses. Both of these numbers are the second highest in this format. India has won two ODI World Cups: the first was an unexpected win in 1983 in England under Kapil Dev, and the second was a home victory in 2011 under MS Dhoni.
Sachin Tendulkar, the top run-scorer in one-day cricket, and Virat Kohli, who is expected to break his records, are both from India.
1. Sri Lanka – 428
Sri Lanka has lost the most ODI cricket matches, totaling 428 defeats compared to 390 wins. Their win-loss ratio is 0.911, which is average. The days when Arjuna Ranatunga led Sri Lanka to its first cricket World Cup victory in 1996 are now in the past, and Sri Lanka’s cricket team is currently declining.
