5 Best Performances of PSL 2024

The PSL 2024 is officially over. Islamabad United made history by winning the Pakistan Super League for the third time. They beat Multan Sultans in a thrilling final last night to win the trophy.

This season was special for PSL fans because many of Pakistan’s top players performed exceptionally well. Also, a few international players impressed everyone with their skills.

Now, let’s review the top Best Performances of PSL 2024.

1. Babar Azam – 111* (63) vs Islamabad United

Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam was the top run-scorer of the season. He made 569 runs in just 11 innings, helping his team reach the playoffs.

Out of those 569 runs, 111 came in a single inning against Islamabad United, the team that eventually won the championship. In a match in Lahore on February 26, Azam scored 111 runs from 63 balls, hitting 14 fours and two sixes.

His great performance helped Zalmi score 201/5 in 20 overs. Islamabad could only manage 193/9 and lost the match by eight runs.

2. Rassie van der Dussen – 104* (52) vs Peshawar Zalmi

The Lahore Qalandars, who were the champions for two years in a row, couldn’t defend their title in the Pakistan Super League. Led by Shaheen Afridi, they only won one out of their 10 matches.

Despite Lahore’s poor performance, South African player Rassie van der Dussen gave fans something to cheer about with a stunning 104 runs off 52 balls against Peshawar Zalmi on February 25 at Gaddafi Stadium.

Lahore was chasing a target of 212 runs and was struggling at 17/1 in the third over. Rassie, batting at No.3, scored 104 not out, hitting seven fours and six sixes. Sadly, his brilliant innings wasn’t enough, and Lahore lost the match by eight runs.

3. Usama Mir – 6/40 vs Lahore Qalandars

On February 27, Usama Mir, a spinner for the Multan Sultans, took 6 wickets for 40 runs in a match against the Lahore Qalandars. The game was held at Gaddafi Stadium. The Sultans scored 214 runs for 4 wickets in their 20 overs.

In response, the Qalandars were all out for 154 runs in 17 overs. Thanks to Mir’s performance, Multan won by 60 runs. Mir took the wickets of Rassie van der Dussen, Shaheen Afridi, George Linde, Jahandad Khan, Salman Fayyaz, and Zaman Khan. Notably, he took Rassie, George, and Jahandad in just one over.

4. Imad Wasim – 5/23 vs Multan Sultans

Imad Wasim set a new record for the best bowling in a Pakistan Super League final last night. Playing for Islamabad United, Imad took five wickets and surprised the Multan Sultans.

He dismissed Yasir Khan, David Willey, Johnson Charles, Khushdil Shah, and Chris Jordan, helping Islamabad limit the Sultans to 159/9. Imad also scored 19 runs off 17 balls, leading his team to their third trophy.

5. Iftikhar Ahmed – 34* (11) vs Lahore Qalandars

On February 21, Multan Sultans played against Lahore Qalandars in Multan. Lahore Qalandars batted first and scored 166/5. When it was Multan’s turn to bat, they were struggling at 128/4 after 16.3 overs, needing 39 runs from 21 balls to win.

Iftikhar Ahmed came in to bat at number 6. He hit five fours and two sixes in just 11 balls, scoring 34 not out. His performance helped Multan Sultans win the match with six balls left.
