MS Dhoni has finally spoken about his future with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) regarding IPL 2025. With the rules and regulations for the upcoming season still being finalized, Dhoni has chosen to wait and see how things unfold before making a decision. At a recent promotional event in Hyderabad, he mentioned, “There is a lot of time for it. We have to see what decision they take on player retention, etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court. So, once the rules and regulations get formalized, I will take a call, but it needs to be in the best interest of the team.”

Uncertainty Around Dhoni’s IPL Future

Discussions about Dhoni’s future in the IPL have been rampant, especially after CSK appointed Ruturaj Gaikwad as the captain for IPL 2024. Under Gaikwad’s leadership, CSK finished fifth in the tournament and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The rules for the IPL 2025 mega auction, including player retention and the Impact Player rule, are still under debate among the ten IPL teams.

BCCI Meeting on IPL 2025 Rules

A meeting was held in Mumbai with all the franchise owners to discuss various aspects of the IPL 2025 regulations. BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that the meeting involved constructive dialogue with IPL team owners on multiple subjects. The recommendations from this meeting will be taken to the IPL Governing Council for further deliberation and evaluation.

Dhoni’s Favorite Indian Players

MS Dhoni, known for leading India to victory in the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, also shared his thoughts on current Indian players. He picked Jasprit Bumrah as his favorite bowler, praising Bumrah for his exceptional performance in India’s recent T20 World Cup victory, where he was named Player of the Tournament with fifteen wickets in eight matches at an economy rate of 4.17.

When asked about his favorite batter, Dhoni said it was hard to choose just one. “It’s difficult to pick one among batters as whomever I see batting, he looks the best. But when I see someone else, he also looks great. But as long as Team India is winning, I don’t want to pick a batter as my favorite. I hope they will keep scoring runs for the team,” he concluded.
