Jacob Oram has been named the new bowling coach for the New Zealand Men’s cricket team, replacing Shane Jurgensen.
Previous Coaching Experience
Oram has experience working with the team as a bowling coach during the Test tour of Bangladesh last year, the T20I series against Australia, and the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
Excitement for the New Role
Oram expressed his excitement about rejoining the Blackcaps, saying, “I’m thrilled to be part of the Blackcaps again. This team has played a significant role in my life, and it’s an honor to contribute once more.”
He added, “The recent chances I’ve had to work with the team have given me a good understanding of where we’re headed, and I’m eager to continue this journey in the coming seasons.”
Developing New Talent
Oram is particularly interested in helping develop the new talent in the Blackcaps’ bowling lineup. “There’s a new wave of young bowlers coming through, and I hope to share my knowledge and experience to prepare them for international cricket.”
Oram will be working with promising fast bowlers like Ben Sears and Will O’Rourke as part of his new role.
Coaching Background
Oram started his coaching career in 2014 with New Zealand A and later served as the bowling coach for the New Zealand Women’s team from 2018. Last summer, he was head coach of Central Hinds, leading the team to the Super Smash final. He has also worked as an assistant coach in the Abu Dhabi T10 and as the bowling coach for MI Cape Town in the SA20 league.
Head Coach’s Support
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead praised Oram, saying, “Jake is excellent at what he does. His playing career and coaching experiences speak for themselves. He brings a deep understanding of international cricket and valuable experience from franchise cricket, which is important for understanding the modern player and the evolving game.”
Starting Date
Oram will officially begin his role on October 7, just before New Zealand’s three-Test series in India.
