Pakistan is set to host the Champions Trophy 2025, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet decided if India will participate in Pakistan. Former Pakistan spinner, Danish Kaneria, suggested that the tournament should use a hybrid model, where matches could be played in a neutral location like Dubai.
Kaneria’s Opinion on India’s Participation
In an exclusive interview, Kaneria expressed that India should not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. He believes the tournament will likely be played in Dubai under a hybrid model because it’s a safer and more neutral venue.
He stated, “Considering the situation in Pakistan, the Indian team should avoid traveling there. The ICC might decide to hold the tournament in Dubai. This is a good choice because it attracts media attention and hype.”

Previous Hybrid Model: Asia Cup 2023
Earlier, during the Asia Cup 2023, Pakistan was the host, but due to security concerns, India played all their matches in Sri Lanka. Pakistan then traveled to India for the ODI World Cup 2023. The last time India played in Pakistan was during the Asia Cup in 2008. Kaneria praised the BCCI for prioritizing the safety of players and said they are doing a great job.
Security Concerns in Pakistan
Kaneria also highlighted the ongoing security issues in Pakistan, which pose a risk to teams visiting for the Champions Trophy 2025. He mentioned that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is focusing on the financial benefits of hosting the event but overlooking the security concerns.
He added, “The main focus seems to be on the money that will come in through sponsorships and media coverage. But it’s essential to consider the security situation. When Pakistan played in India, everything was well-organized, and the environment was safe for everyone.”
Pakistan’s Recent Performance
Pakistan’s cricket team has struggled since the T20 World Cup 2022. They are currently hosting Bangladesh for a two-Test series, where they lost the first match. The second match is scheduled for August 30 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
