England fast bowler Gus Atkinson shone with the bat in the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s, scoring 118 off 115 balls from number 8. He was unbeaten on 74 at the end of Day 1 and reached his maiden Test century on Day 2, hitting 14 fours and four sixes before being dismissed by Asitha Fernando. With this century, Atkinson joined a select group of players who have both scored a Test hundred and taken a 10-wicket haul at Lord’s, with five of them being English cricketers.

1. Sir Ian Botham
The legendary Ian Botham played 15 Test matches at Lord’s, scoring 652 runs and taking 69 wickets. In his first Test at the iconic venue in June 1978, Botham scored 108 runs off 110 balls against Pakistan, hitting 12 fours and a six. He then took 8-34 in the second innings, dismantling Pakistan’s batting lineup.
Later that year, in August, Botham took 11 wickets in a Test against New Zealand at Lord’s. He claimed 6-101 in the first innings and 5-39 in the second, leading England to a seven-wicket victory.

2. Stuart Broad
Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad had potential as a batsman but did not fully capitalize on it. At Lord’s, he played 28 Test matches, scoring 973 runs at an average of 27.02. His only Test century came at Lord’s in August 2010, when he scored 169 runs off 297 balls against Pakistan, with 18 fours and a six.
Broad also took 11 wickets in a Test against the West Indies at Lord’s in May 2012. He starred with figures of 7-72 in the first innings and 4-93 in the second, earning the Player of the Match award as England won by five wickets.
3. Chris Woakes
Chris Woakes, England’s pace-bowling all-rounder, is often underrated. At the time of writing, he was playing his seventh Test at Lord’s, where he had scored 335 runs at an average of 47.85 and taken 30 wickets at an impressive average of 12.23.
Woakes’ only Test century came at Lord’s against India in August 2018, where he scored an unbeaten 137 off 177 balls, hitting 21 fours. He also took four wickets in the match, earning the Player of the Match award as England won by an innings and 159 runs.
In July 2016, Woakes took 11 wickets in a Test at Lord’s against Pakistan, despite England losing the match by 75 runs. He took 6-70 in the first innings and 5-32 in the second.

4. Gus Atkinson
Gus Atkinson has had a strong start to his Test career. Before his century in the current Test against Sri Lanka, he made headlines with a 10-wicket haul at Lord’s on his debut against the West Indies in July 2024.
Atkinson tore through the West Indies batting lineup, taking 7-45 in the first innings and 5-61 in the second. His performance helped England secure a win by an innings and 114 runs.
5. Keith Miller
Keith Miller, the legendary Australian all-rounder, is the only non-English player on this list. Miller played three Tests at Lord’s, scoring 270 runs at an average of 45 and taking 11 wickets with an average of 20.54.
In June 1953, Miller scored 109 in the second innings of a Test against England at Lord’s, hitting 14 fours and a six. The match ended in a draw. In June 1956, Miller took 10 wickets in a Test at Lord’s, claiming 5-72 in the first innings and 5-80 in the second, as Australia won the match by 185 runs.
