At the Paris Paralympics 2024, Indian Para Athlete Preethi Pal achieved another milestone by winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 200 meters – T35 Final. She finished the race with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. This victory made her the first Indian woman in track and field to win two Paralympic medals.

A Historic Achievement for India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised Preethi Pal’s remarkable achievement, calling her an inspiration to the nation. In a social media post, he commended her dedication, describing it as truly extraordinary.

Congratulations from the President

President Droupadi Murmu also congratulated Preethi Pal on her second Paralympic medal. She expressed pride in Preethi’s accomplishments and shared that her triumphant images, wrapped in the Indian tricolor, have energized sports enthusiasts across the country. The President hopes Preethi will continue to inspire the youth and achieve even greater success for India.

Preethi’s Journey to Success

Earlier this year, Preethi qualified for her first Paralympic Games by winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 200m T35 event at the World Para Athletics Championships in Kobe, Japan. Despite missing out on a medal at the Asian Para Games in China last year, she relocated her training to New Delhi, a move that has now brought her two Paralympic medals.

India’s Sixth Medal at Paris 2024 Paralympics

Preethi’s bronze medal on September 1 marked India’s sixth medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. The other medals include gold and bronze in para shooting by Avani Lekhara and Mona Agarwal, respectively, in the 10m air rifle standing SH1 class, as well as silver and bronze by Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis in the 10m air pistol SH1 events.
