Big Cash Rewards for India's Asian Champions Trophy Winners

After their bronze medal at the 2024 Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team has received even more rewards for winning the Asian Champions Trophy (ACT).

Hockey India has announced that each player will receive Rs 3 lakh, while every member of the support staff will get Rs 1.5 lakh. This comes after India’s impressive performance in the tournament, where they won all their matches, scored 26 goals, and conceded only five in seven games.

Success After the Olympics

Earlier in 2024, following their bronze medal win at the Paris Olympics, each player from the Indian hockey squad was given Rs 15 lakh, and the support staff got Rs 7.5 lakh from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

Some players like Uttam Singh and Araijeet Singh Hundal, who weren’t part of the Olympics team, will now receive their reward for the first time after this latest victory.

India’s Journey to the Trophy

India secured a 1-0 victory against China in the Asian Champions Trophy final, thanks to a late goal by Jugraj Singh. Captain Harmanpreet Singh, who scored seven goals during the tournament, was named the ‘Player of the Tournament.’

India were the only Asian team ranked in the top 10 of the FIH Outdoor Hockey World Rankings and were favorites to win. They lived up to the expectations with dominant performances throughout the tournament.

Dominating Performances

India scored 21 goals in the group stages, including an 8-1 win against Malaysia and a crucial victory over arch-rivals Pakistan. In the semi-finals, they comfortably beat Korea 4-1 before defeating China in the final.

Since winning the first ACT title in 2011, India has gone on to win it again in 2016, 2018, 2023, and now in 2024. Out of the eight tournaments held, India has only missed reaching the final twice.
