Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins is taking an 8-week break from cricket to rest and prepare for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will be held in November and December. Cummins has been playing non-stop cricket for the past 18 months and feels the need to recharge before the big series against India. Australia has not won the last three editions of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, making this series especially important.
Why Cummins Needs the Break
Cummins explained to Fox Sports that he’s been bowling continuously since the World Test Championship final 18 months ago. The break will allow his body to recover before he starts preparing for the Australian summer. He believes this rest will help him maintain his pace and reduce the risk of injury.

Cummins’ Recent Cricket Schedule
Since the World Test Championship final in 2023, Cummins has played in several major tournaments and series, including the Ashes, ODI World Cup 2023, Test matches against Pakistan, West Indies, and New Zealand, a T20I series against New Zealand, the Indian Premier League, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, and Major League Cricket for the San Francisco Unicorns.
Leading Australia to Success
Cummins led Australia to two major ICC titles in 2023. Australia won the World Test Championship final against India by 209 runs and also claimed victory in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India, defeating the Indian team in the final. Cummins took 4 wickets in the World Test Championship final and 15 wickets in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, solidifying his role as a key player for Australia.
