Retention Announcement Expected Soon as IPL Governing Council Meets

Retention Announcement Expected Soon

A much-anticipated retention announcement expected soon. The IPL Governing Council will hold a meeting today, and we might hear about the retention numbers within the next 24 hours, possibly even today.

Meeting Details

Cricbuzz confirms that the IPL Governing Council meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, at 11:30 AM. It will take place at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bengaluru. This meeting was arranged at the last minute, as notifications were sent out only on Friday evening.

Important Decisions Ahead

After the meeting, an announcement is likely, but there are indications that the retention decisions, which are crucial, may be discussed at the general body meeting on Sunday before being shared publicly.

Other Topics of Discussion

In addition to deciding how many players can be retained, the Governing Council will also discuss the date and location of the upcoming mega-auction. Current information suggests that the auction will occur at the end of November and might be held in a Gulf city. Saudi Arabia is reportedly interested in hosting the auction, and if approved, it could take place in Riyadh.

Speculation Around Retention Numbers

There is a lot of speculation about the number of players that can be retained, with estimates ranging from 2 to 8. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to choose a number around the middle, perhaps between 5 and 6, including the Right to Match (RTM) option.

Earlier, the BCCI had met with IPL team owners at the end of July to discuss various topics related to the league, including retentions, and to gather feedback from the owners.
