Suryakumar’s Injury and Jadeja’s Withdrawal Impact Duleep Trophy Squads

Suryakumar's Injury

Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja will not play in the first round of the Duleep Trophy. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not yet announced replacements, which leaves some teams with fewer players.

Last-Minute Changes Before the Tournament

With the Duleep Trophy starting in just two days, team rosters are still changing due to injuries and late confirmations. Suryakumar Yadav, the T20I captain, was expected to play for India C against India D on September 5. However, he injured his hand while fielding in a match and will now rest at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Suryakumar’s injury was initially thought to be minor, but it appears to be more serious. He won’t play in the Duleep Trophy’s first round as he needs to recover. This was an important opportunity for him to make a case for a Test recall, as he has not played in Test matches since last year.

Impact on Team Squads

India C has already had to make changes due to injuries. Fast bowler Umran Malik was ruled out and replaced by Gaurav Yadav. Ravindra Jadeja’s unexpected withdrawal has left India B short of players, with only 14 available, the least of all teams.

In contrast, India A, led by Shubman Gill, has the largest squad with 16 players, while India D has 15. This imbalance in squad sizes is not new in domestic cricket, though it is uncommon.

Good News for India B

The India B team received some good news with the fitness of Nitish Kumar Reddy. He is now fit to play after recovering from a groin injury that had previously ruled him out of India’s T20I squad for Zimbabwe in July.
