Who Holds the Record of Most Champions League Titles?

Who Holds the Record for the Most Champions League Titles?

Many players have lifted the UEFA Champions League (UCL) trophy, but only a few have claimed multiple titles. Let’s take a look at the players who have won the most Champions League titles.

In 2024, Dani Carvajal and Luka Modrić each won their sixth Champions League title after Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley Stadium. They are the only players to have played in and won six UCL finals since the competition’s rebranding in 1992 from the European Cup to the UEFA Champions League.

The History of the European Cup and Most Champions League Titles

The European Champion Clubs’ Cup, commonly known as the European Cup, began in 1955. In 1992, the tournament was renamed the UEFA Champions League. Real Madrid has dominated the competition, securing a record 15 titles eight more than AC Milan, who hold second place.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool each have six titles, just one behind Milan. Barcelona follows with five titles, while Ajax has four. Manchester United and Inter Milan have won three Champions League titles each, and several other clubs, like Juventus, Benfica, and Chelsea, have won two.

Non-Real Madrid Players with the Most UCL Titles

While Real Madrid dominates the list of top UCL winners, several players from other clubs have achieved great success. Paolo Maldini and Alessandro Costacurta each won five titles with AC Milan, while Liverpool’s Phil Neal is the only English player with four titles. Clarence Seedorf is the only player to win the UCL with three different clubs (Ajax, Real Madrid, and AC Milan).

David Alaba stands out as the only player to win the UCL twice with two different clubs—Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
